Jim played for the Magpies from 1969 to 1973.

In total Jim played 79 games of which 10 were in First Grade.

Jim played his first football with a junior rugby union team in the Western Suburbs competition in 1961. However, the following year he joined his mates at Enfield Federals, playing seven seasons with the Club. He went on to play almost eighty games with Wests over five seasons.

Jim found his way to Narooma on the NSW South Coast where he became involved in the oyster growing business and took up a player- coach position with the Narooma Rugby League Club. Jim played five seasons with Narooma and coached the team for three seasons. At the age of thirty three, Jim finally hung up his boots at the end of the 1982 season. While at Narooma, Jim played alongside other notable Wests players in John Heyward and Pat Hundy.

Jim clearly liked the lifestyle at Narooma and remained there building up his oyster farming business, Jim Croucher Bottled Oysters, Narooma, to become one of the leading players in the industry.

Jim died at Moruya, NSW on the 12th of  November 2025.
