Shirley, as he was affectionately known, played his junior football with Chester Hill Hornets before being graded with our Club in 1972


What a breakout year it was for him playing 20 First Grade games and representing City 2nd’s v Country




Shirl went on to play over 100 games with our Club from 1972 to 1976 and a final season in 1979.


This included 59 First Grade games and scoring 16 tries in all grades along the way


John played with Brisbane Norths under the legendary Coach, Bobby Bax in between his two stints with the Magpies


He finished his footy career playing initially on the South Coast of NSW and a swansong season at Sawtell


A little known fact is that he scored the first ever try in the first ever Amco Cup game
